Artist Bio

My work is a direct extension of my background in large-scale murals
and trompe l’oeil (paintings that “trick the eye”). I have found inspiration from the great fresco painters of the Renaissance. Their religious, mythological and fabricated characters are large scale, but also convey personas that are larger than life. I am interested in their stories and how they might interact with the world today. If Cupid were around, how would he feel about Internet dating? Do angels walk among us and do we notice them? How would mythological creatures cope in a big city? Bringing these past concepts to present day sheds light on our changing world and addresses ideas from the past.

I traditionally work with acrylics, plaster and sand on canvas.
This technique produces an aged-fresco effect, resembling murals
from centuries ago. I also work with watercolors and oils.
